This Has Always Been With You was written during a blur of hospital stays, seizure induced hallucinations and existential crisis. In August 2022, Josh Martin was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer.

“I was told my tumor had likely been growing for decades and would be with me until I die. The best way to extend my life was through brain radiation and chemotherapy. In those initial days of shell-shock trauma, I wasn’t sure what my future held and if I would even enjoy or be able to create music anymore. After a few weeks I picked up my guitar and played for a few hours. I broke down in tears realizing that those moments of writing music had provided me complete distraction from my own thoughts. I had to keep writing.” - Josh Martin

THABWY is eight pieces that were conceived while receiving treatment. They have been constructed in such a way to guide the listener through a journey, beginning with Palinopsia (the visual symptoms Josh experienced which prompted him to have an MRI of the brain) and ending with Senescence (an optimistic desire for a natural slow release from consciousness). THABWY was written and recorded in Buffalo, NY and Houston, TX.
